January 2014 Minutes

The January 2014 meeting of the North Dallas R/C Club was called to order by Don Hafer on January 16, 2014.

Previous month’s minutes were approved as posted on the website.  The club rules were reactivated by vote for the 2014 year.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT-  Don Hafer.  Nothing to report.

SECRETARY – Bruce Lakatos.  Member Garrett Amy's father made a generous donation to the club general fund.  Bruce noted other local upcoming events.  Bruce also read a few AMA rules to maintain our Gold Leader status.

VICE PRESIDENT – Charles Shafer.  Charles reviewed the dates of this year's club events which are posted on our website.  A motion passed to approve field use on the selected dates.  Charles also noted the future meeting programs and that there will be only one "swap meet" this year which will be held during the March 2014 meeting.  We are always looking for more ideas for meeting programs.

TREASURER/MEMBERSHIP – Charlie Pyne gave a detailed presentation of the financial status of the club.  A motion to accept treasurer's report passed.  We welcome Charlie as our new Treasurer.  Membership count is now at 156 which is up significantly from this time last year.

SAFETY- Dave Schaefer.  No safety issues.

FIELD –  Dave Schaefer.  Field looks good.  Dave mentioned the importance of putting active membership cards in the appropriate slots during flying per our rules.  This is an ongoing problem and we are looking into other ideas which would aid in keeping membership  cards on display while operating RC aircraft.  We are open to suggestions  on this issue.  Billy Slater suggested the idea of attaching membership cards to the pilot's radio.  Josh Kleen suggested that the cards could also be attached to the pilot by a clip or lanyard, as some businesses do.

SOUND-  Billy Slater.  No issues.  All Quiet.

TRAINING – Jim Williams and Dale O'Daniel-  Jim Williams was absent.  Currently there are 2 or 3 currently interested in training although training has been affected by weather.

WEBMASTER –  Ken Sienksi.  Ken has recently completed a major overhaul to our website which looks fantastic.  He went over all of the website features and the website is currently up to date.  Ken is still making minor improvements.  NDRCC thanks Ken for putting countless hours of work into the website improvement and the results certainly reflect his work.

FACEBOOK- Josh Kleen.  Josh gave a brief status report on the Facebook page, which now has a link to it from the NDRCC website and is now easier to locate.

CD REPORTS –  John Grubbs reported that the indoor flying is still quite successful.

OLD BUSINESS-  Charles Shafer is still in the process of getting prices for the road improvement.  The new gate combination lock has been installed with the combination being issued upon membership renewal.  The runway extension project is on hold for now.  Also, due to the recent discovery of a major mechanical problem, we will be donating the Ford tractor to Aubrey High School Industrial Arts program.  They are very excited and plan to have students refurbish the tractor over the next few years.

NEW BUSINESS -  A field box was donated to the club which was auctioned off and raised $36 which will go into the club general fund.  The idea of having an AMA sanctioned Aero-towing event at our field was raised.

SHOW and TELL – Alan Buckner showed his vintage Brown Model D engine.  Dale O'Daniel displayed his new P51 with new electronic engine sound technology.  Ed Nogar brought in his scratch-built float racer.

RAFFLE-  Jaques Parker conducted the monthly raffle and also presented the funds from last month's auction to the treasurer.

PROGRAM -  Yoram Solomon (pictured) gave a very informative presentation about the latest technology in model aviation avionics.
