September 2016 Minutes

 

The September meeting of the North Dallas RC Club occurred on September 15th, 2016 at Valley View Christian Church. Club President Greg Pulcini called the meeting to order at 6:59PM.

One new member, Steve Brock, in attendance. Steve recently moved to the area from Houston.

A motion was made, and seconded, to approve the September meeting minutes as published. Approval passed unanimously, by voice vote.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT -- Greg Pulcini: Greg announced the passing of Art Grusendorf and noted that the club sent flowers. Approval of the flower expense was unanimously approved.

Attending membership was queried for interest in participating in the Trinity River Wind Fest. None was shown and Greg stated that he would respond to the organizers and politely decline the invitation.

On a related note, Greg asked the membership to think about the 2017 events calendar and to make sure that we had people for any event proposed.

VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT -- Dave Schaefer: No report. Dave was absent.

SECRETARY’S REPORT -- Patrick McNamara: Nothing to report.

TREASURER’S REPORT -- Dave Cotton: Financial reports were presented. A motion was made, and seconded, to approve the financial report. Approval passed by unanimous voice vote.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT – Bruce Lakatos: Current club membership stands at 184.

FIELD REPORT -- Bob Edlet-Murphy: Grass continues to grow due to recent rainfall. Field is nice and green. Bob noted dead spots in the grass runway. It looks like grass killer was sprayed near the end of the runway and at the 60 degree lines. Request was made for discussion before application of any more grass killed. Fishtrap road south of the field is closed due to a collapsed culvert. No idea when it will be fixed. Further updates as more information is available.

SAFETY REPORT -- Dave Schafer: No report

SOUND REPORT – Billy Slater: No report

TRAINING – Dale O’ Daniel currently has two students. One has soloed. James Lawson was presented with his solo certificate.

RAFFLE -- Jacque Parker: DLE-20 for quarterly prize. Quarterly prize to be given away tonight.

CD REPORTS and EVENTS:

Float Fly – Late sanction not approved by AMA due to conflicts with other area events. Event officially canceled.

Club youth day -- Youth day is moving from October 15th to October 22nd to fit with the Scout Troop schedule.

Monroe, LA Memorial Event – September23rd and 24th.

OLD BUSINESS: First attempt to assist Lad Doctor in getting flying again. Dale O Daniel was present to learn how to set up Lad’s gear. Everything got setup and the engine wouldn’t start of the plane. Another attempt will be made Saturday, September 17th, weather permitting. Lad is very excited. Dale knows how to set everything up and needs to train others. Dale noted that it would be wise for members assisting Lad to give the aircraft a good inspection for airworthiness.

August 2016 Minutes

 

The August meeting of the North Dallas RC Club occurred on August 18th, 2016 at Valley View Christian Church. Club President Greg Pulcini called the meeting to order at 7:00PM.

No guests or new members in attendance.

A motion was made, and seconded, to approve the July meeting minutes as published. Approval passed by voice vote with one dissent.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT -- Greg Pulcini: Greg noted a couple of upcoming events: West TX Warbirds on Aug 26-28 and Great SW Jet Rally on Sep 8-10. Nothing further to report.

VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT -- Dave Schaefer: No report. Dave was absent. He donated his X2 and was attending the event.

SECRETARY’S REPORT -- Patrick McNamara: Nothing to report.

TREASURER’S REPORT -- Dave Cotton: Financials were presented by Patrick McNamara in Dave’s absence. A motion was made, and seconded, to approve the financial report. Approval passed by unanimous voice vote.

FIELD REPORT -- Bob Edlet-Murphy: Rain will drive the need for extra mowing. The mower had a bent blade, which has been fixed. The field has been treated with grub killer and fertilizer. The field is looking good and the extra work put in this year has paid off.

SAFETY REPORT -- Dave Schafer: No report

SOUND REPORT – Billy Slater: No report

TRAINING – Dale O’ Daniel currently has two students. One is ready to solo.

RAFFLE -- Jacque Parker: DLE-20 for quarterly prize. 13 items for the raffle.

CD REPORTS and EVENTS:

Indoor flying was a little bit of a fiasco. Gym was in use when we arrived. Turnout was low and the site was kind of small but ok. Not a great facility. Will keep looking for another site but may plan another event in three months.

Upcoming Float Fly: Dale attempted to set up event with Hidden Cove Park after last meeting. Turned into a fiasco trying to get a response and get on the calendar. Entry is now $10 per head (not per card), even with an airplane. This is a change from the past

Club youth day: Bob checking calendar to verify troop availability and will notify if we need to change event details.

July 2016 Minutes

 

The July meeting of the North Dallas RC Club occurred on July 21st, 2016 at Valley View Christian Church.  Club President Greg Pulcini called the meeting to order at 6:58PM.

No guests or new members in attendance.

A motion was made, and seconded, to approve the May meeting minutes as published. Approval passed by unanimous voice vote.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT -- Greg Pulcini:  It’s been hot – thanks to Billy for keeping up with water at the field.  Nothing further for President’s report.

VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT -- Dave Schaefer:  14 month extension to FAA authorization preserves section 336 – protects model aircraft activity pursued under the AMA umbrella from FAA regulation.  Noted that we need to make sure it is preserved in the upcoming 2017 reauthorization. FAA sent the AMA a letter regarding the 400ft rule.  Model aircraft operating under AMA rules are expempt from 400ft FAA altitude limits.  The letter recognized the the AMA as a community based organization for purposes of section 336.

SECRETARY’S REPORT -- Patrick McNamara:  Nothing to report.

TREASURER’S REPORT -- Dave Cotton:  Financials were presented by Patrick McNamara in Dave’s absence.  A motion was made, and seconded, to approve the financial report.  Approval passed by unanimous voice vote.

FIELD REPORT -- Bob Edler-Murphy:  Bob reported that the new mower has one blade cutting lower than the other and we will need to address this prior to the next mowing.  Rex volunteered to trailer the mower if needed for warranty repair.

SAFETY REPORT -- Dave Schafer:  Reminder that taxiing to and from the pits requires positive control of the aircraft.

SOUND REPORT – Billy Slater:  No sound issues.

TRAINING – Josh Kleen:  Picked up 3-4 students formally for training and one or two more informally.  Dale O’Daniel presented Lucas Troup with his solo plaque.  Lucas successfully completed his solo flight on May 28th, 2016.

RAFFLE -- Jacque Parker:  DLE-20 for quarterly prize.  17 items for the raffle.

CD REPORTS and EVENTS:

Sept 10th, NDRCC float fly.

Oct 15th, NDRCC fall youth day

Indoor flying at Our Redeemer Luther Church, 6-8PM Tuesday, July 26th.  Don Haefer went over parking at the church.

June 2016 Minutes

 

The June meeting of the North Dallas RC Club occurred on June 29th, 2016 at Valley View Christian Church.  Club President Greg Pulcini called the meeting to order at 6:59PM.

No guests or new members in attendance.

A motion was made, and seconded, to approve the May meeting minutes as published.  Approval passed by unanimous voice vote.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT -- Greg Pulcini:  Greg noted that Wings over Windsong was not particularly successful for a second year and proposed that we discontinue our participation should it occur next year.  A motion was made to discontinue further participation in Wings over Windsong.  The motion a was seconded and passed on a unanimous voice vote.

Greg also noted that we were now up to date on our Gold Leader status at the cost of a donated subscription to Model Aviation.

Greg also noted the upcoming Denton swap meet on August 6th.

VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT -- Dave Schaefer:  Dave gave an overview of the recent event at the Dallas Arboretum, including showing some pictures from the event and a video.  Local press was present and NDRCC got its “4 seconds of fame” in the evening news.  Dave noted it was a good day overall.

Dave gave an update on FAR 107, released on June 21st.  No impact on our normal activities.

On an event safety related note, Dave pointed out that at Warbirds Over Texas, the first suppression equipment left and there was significant after hours flying, including jets.  Needs to be addressed for next year.

SECRETARY’S REPORT -- Patrick McNamara:  Nothing to report, Greg covered the Gold Leader status in his report.

TREASURER’S REPORT -- Dave Cotton:  Financials were presented.  Dave noted the purchase of the new mower and a make up on an under-payment of the 2015 field lease.  He also noted that we would be making the 2016 lease payment early as a good will gesture and the payment will show up on the July financial report.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT -- Bruce Lakatos:  Currently at 170 members.

FIELD REPORT -- Bob Edlet-Murphy:  Nothing significant.  Mowing will slow as summer heat settles in.  Bob proposed we start discussing a second new mower for next year.

SAFETY REPORT -- Dave Schafer:  Dave noted the danger of improper arming of electric planes.  He also noted that we should all drink plenty of water in the Texas heat.

SOUND REPORT – Billy Slater:  No sound issues.

TRAINING – Josh Kleen:  Training is picking up.  Josh noted his time and availability will be greatly reduced for a while.  Any instructors wanting to train students would be welcome.  Also noted that we will be presenting a solo plaque at the July meeting.

RAFFLE -- Jacque Parker:  The quarterly prize is an FMS Zero.  15 other items.

CD REPORTS and EVENTS:  

Warbirds Over Texas – event summary.  Request for June 9th and 10th of 2017 for next year’s event.  A motion to accept the dates was made, seconded, and passed unanimously by voice vote.

May 2016 Minutes

 

The May meeting of the North Dallas RC Club occurred on May 19th, 2016 at Valley View Christian Church.  Club President Greg Pulcini called the meeting to order at 6:58PM.

No guests or new members in attendance.

A motion was made, and seconded, to approve the April meeting minutes as published.  Approval passed by unanimous voice vote.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT -- Greg Pulcini:  Nothing to report.

VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT -- Dave Schaefer:  Dave presented a quick summary of recent events and encourage all to attend Joe Nall at some point.  Noted that he was very encouraged by the number of kids at the flight lines at this year's Joe Nall.

SECRETARY’S REPORT -- Patrick McNamara:  Nothing to report.

TREASURER’S REPORT -- Dave Cotton:  Dave was out of town.  Balance sheet was presented for review by attendees.  No questions.  A motion was made, and seconded, to approve the treasure's report as presented.  Approval passed by unanimous voice vote.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT -- Bruce Lakatos:  No new members since April meeting.

FIELD REPORT -- Bob Edlet-Murphy:  Bob put down gravel in the bad spots of the driveway to prep for Warbirds Over Texas.  Bob noted that if you are going to mow the grass runway, use the new mower.  It does a much better job.  A question was posed from the membership as to whether we were going to fill any more holes in or roll the grass runway before WBOT.  Bob will look into it.

RAFFLE -- Jacque Parker:  The quarterly prize is an FMS Zero, to be given away at the June meeting.  Good assortment of other stuff:  17 items.

TRAINING – Josh Kleen:  No active students.  Josh noted some interest after the sping Scout's day, but nothing has yet materialized.

CD REPORTS and EVENTS:  

Float Fly – 18 pilots attended.  By all reports, it was a good event.  $417 net for the club.

Spring Scout's Day – 30 Scouts in attendance.  Everyone, who wanted to, got to fly.  No incidents, no trainers lost.   Thanks to all the demo pilots and volunteers for the successful event.

Winds Over Windsong – Upcoming, June 4th.  The AMA trailer will not be there this year.  Concerns about the state of the runway due to the large amount of recent rain and more forecast.  Fishtrap road right in front of the field is in horrible condition.  This year's event will have FPV racing and a couple of sponsored pilots.  Runway is planned to be 750'x50' rolled grass.

War Birds Over Texas – Upcoming, June 10th and 11th.  Carrier landing system has been field tested and lessons learned are being incorporated.  Considering for Friday after 5pm.  Ed to send out pictures of his T-28 with landing hook installed.   Ed also gave a summary of schedule and noted strict enforcement of badge policy in the infield/pits.  10 pilots have pre-registered.  May 31st is the cutoff for pre-registration.  It was noted by the membership that we should add spectator/parking donation info the the flyer.  Volunteers requested to arrive by 8:30AM each day.

OLD BUSINESS:  May 26th is the final indoor flying session at VVCC.  Potential site at Park and 75.  General consensus what that is was to far from most members for weekly flying.  Perhaps suitable for quarter indoor events.

NEW BUSINESS:  No new business.
