May 2016 Minutes

 

The May meeting of the North Dallas RC Club occurred on May 19th, 2016 at Valley View Christian Church.  Club President Greg Pulcini called the meeting to order at 6:58PM.

No guests or new members in attendance.

A motion was made, and seconded, to approve the April meeting minutes as published.  Approval passed by unanimous voice vote.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT -- Greg Pulcini:  Nothing to report.

VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT -- Dave Schaefer:  Dave presented a quick summary of recent events and encourage all to attend Joe Nall at some point.  Noted that he was very encouraged by the number of kids at the flight lines at this year's Joe Nall.

SECRETARY’S REPORT -- Patrick McNamara:  Nothing to report.

TREASURER’S REPORT -- Dave Cotton:  Dave was out of town.  Balance sheet was presented for review by attendees.  No questions.  A motion was made, and seconded, to approve the treasure's report as presented.  Approval passed by unanimous voice vote.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT -- Bruce Lakatos:  No new members since April meeting.

FIELD REPORT -- Bob Edlet-Murphy:  Bob put down gravel in the bad spots of the driveway to prep for Warbirds Over Texas.  Bob noted that if you are going to mow the grass runway, use the new mower.  It does a much better job.  A question was posed from the membership as to whether we were going to fill any more holes in or roll the grass runway before WBOT.  Bob will look into it.

SAFETY REPORT -- Dave Schafer:  No report

SOUND REPORT – Billy Slater:  No sound issues.

RAFFLE -- Jacque Parker:  The quarterly prize is an FMS Zero, to be given away at the June meeting.  Good assortment of other stuff:  17 items.

TRAINING – Josh Kleen:  No active students.  Josh noted some interest after the sping Scout's day, but nothing has yet materialized.

CD REPORTS and EVENTS:  

Float Fly – 18 pilots attended.  By all reports, it was a good event.  $417 net for the club.

Spring Scout's Day – 30 Scouts in attendance.  Everyone, who wanted to, got to fly.  No incidents, no trainers lost.   Thanks to all the demo pilots and volunteers for the successful event.

Winds Over Windsong – Upcoming, June 4th.  The AMA trailer will not be there this year.  Concerns about the state of the runway due to the large amount of recent rain and more forecast.  Fishtrap road right in front of the field is in horrible condition.  This year's event will have FPV racing and a couple of sponsored pilots.  Runway is planned to be 750'x50' rolled grass.

War Birds Over Texas – Upcoming, June 10th and 11th.  Carrier landing system has been field tested and lessons learned are being incorporated.  Considering for Friday after 5pm.  Ed to send out pictures of his T-28 with landing hook installed.   Ed also gave a summary of schedule and noted strict enforcement of badge policy in the infield/pits.  10 pilots have pre-registered.  May 31st is the cutoff for pre-registration.  It was noted by the membership that we should add spectator/parking donation info the the flyer.  Volunteers requested to arrive by 8:30AM each day.

OLD BUSINESS:  May 26th is the final indoor flying session at VVCC.  Potential site at Park and 75.  General consensus what that is was to far from most members for weekly flying.  Perhaps suitable for quarter indoor events.

NEW BUSINESS:  No new business.

SHOW AND TELL: Reed presented his Freewing P-51 Mustang.  6 channels with an impressive sound modules.  Came as a RXR setup.   55” (1410mm) and 6lb RTF.

April 2016 Minutes

 

The April meeting of the North Dallas RC Club occurred on April 21st, 2016 at Valley View Christian Church.  Club President Greg Pulcini called the meeting to order at 7:01PM.

Bob's wife was recognized as a guest at the meeting.

A motion was made, and seconded, to approve the March meeting minutes as published (Thanks Bruce).  Approval passed by unanimous voice vote.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT -- Greg Pulcini:  The Brazo's powerline project is no longer considering any path that crosses or impinges on the club field.

VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT -- Dave Schaefer:  Update on AMA/FAA status.  Showed a picture of the new heli pad in use.  Dave also requested a caution sign for the electric fence.

Update on flying demonstration for Dallas Arboretum – Father's day.  Club participants can enjoy access to the Arboretum facilities for the day.  Dave showed the club a picture of the beautiful flying site.  Looking for participants. 

SECRETARY’S REPORT -- Patrick McNamara:  Nothing to report.

TREASURER’S REPORT -- Dave Cotton:  Club financial audit passed – thanks to Ken Sienski for his work in conducting the audit.  Reminder that NDRCC is a participant in the Tom Thumb “Good Neighbor” program and receives rewards for purchases by club members registered with the program who select NDRCC as their beneficiary.

Dave presented the financial balance sheet and gave a summary.  Motion for acceptance of financial report was made, seconded, and pass by unanimous voice vote.

Dave also noted the answer to a prior question regrading the club surity bond:  the president and treasurer are listed by position on the bond, not individual name and so do not need to be updated.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT -- Bruce Lakatos:  164 current members.

FIELD REPORT -- Bob Edlet-Murphy:  Field has be wet, comlicating attempts to mow.  Plans to attempt mowing at least the grass runway this week.

Mower update:  The Lesco is gone.  Was sold for $500.  New mower has been identified – a Toro zero turn – and delivery is TBD, with training for mowing crew when it arrives.

Still need volunteers for gravel spreading, Wed/Thursday of next week, TBD.

SAFETY REPORT -- Dave Schafer:  No report

RAFFLE -- Jacque Parker:  The quarterly prize is an FMS Zero.

CD REPORTS and EVENTS:  Motion was made, seconded, and passed on voice vote, with one opposed,  to scrap the club “Family Day” meeting at the field and move the meeting to the 3rd Thursday of the month.

Warbirds Over Texas – June 10th and 11th.  Event flyer was presented and a need was noted for at least another six volunteers.  Also needed are volunteers to assist with setup on June 7th.  The proposed budget for the event was presented for review and comment.

Spring Scout's Day – May 7th.  This year we will be hosting Boy Scouts instead of Cub Scouts.  Expect 30 Scout in attendance and, as always, need volunteers to assist.

Wings Over Windsong – June 4th.

NEW BUSINESS:  Richardson RC had 50th anniversary gala.  Congratulations.

Bob raised the possibility of an activity with local VFW or disabled veterans groups for Model Aviation Day – Aug 13th.  Or possibly for Veteran's Day.

Presentation:  Club aero engineering expert Mike Oser gave a presentation on the Saber XLT (eXtra Large Turbine!).  This is a larger version of the model he designed and flies at our field.

March 2016 Minutes

 

The  March 2016 meeting of the North Dallas R/C Club was called to order by Greg Pulcini on March 17th, 2016 At Valley View Christian Church.  

Previous month’s minutes were approved as posted on the website.  

VISITORS/NEW MEMBERS – Former member Roy Appleton.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT-  Greg Pulcini.  Reported that insurance certificate has arrived.  

SECRETARY – Patrick McNamera.  Absent.  Bruce Lakatos had nothing to report. 

VICE PRESIDENT – Dave Schaefer.  Dave asked that people please not leave items at the field.  Dave reported on the current FAA issues.  He also reported that we are having email issues with those members who have AOL email accounts.  

TREASURER/MEMBERSHIP – Dave Cotton.  Dave gave a report of the financial status of the club.  A motion to accept treasurer's report passed.    

SAFETY- Dave Schaefer- No safety issues.  Dave did stress the importance of checking the connections of Spektrum satelite antennas.

FIELD –  Bob Edler-Murphy.  Field looks good and has been recently mowed.  We are looking into selling the Lesco mower.  We are also researching the purchase of a new mower.

SOUND-  Billy Slater. No issues.  All Quiet.

TRAINING – Josh Kleen- We have a couple people currently in training..  

WEBMASTER –  Ken Sienksi.  Absent.  No report.

FACEBOOK- Josh Kleen.  All going well.   

CD REPORTS –  The Aero-tow Event was a success.  Richardson RC is having their 50th Anniversary banquet.  The Warbird event scheduled for June 10-11 is in need of volunteers.  Scouts day is tentatively scheduled for April 9th.  Benbrook has a small warbird event on May 14th.  Wings Over Windsong is also in the works.  Our next float fly is April 30th.  National Model Aviation Day will be August 13th.  Indoor flying is still ongoing.

OLD BUSINESS-  None.

NEW BUSINESS - We are currently shopping for a new mower.  We are looking for a new place to have indoor flying.

RAFFLE-  Jaques Parker conducted the monthly raffle.  The quarterly prize, a glider, was won by Jaques Parker.

February 2016 Minutes

 

The February meeting of the North Dallas RC Club occurred on Feb 18, 2016 at Valley View Christian Church.  Club President Greg Pulcini called the meeting to order at 7:01PM.

There were no new members or guests attending the meeting.

A motion was made, and seconded, to approve the January meeting minutes as published.  Approval passed by unanimous voice vote.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT -- Greg Pulcini:  The club has received it’s AMA charter.  Expect to receive insurance certifications from the AMA in March.

VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT -- Dave Schaefer:  Dave gave a quick review of upcoming events, noting that Wings Over Windsong will be held the weekend before Warbirds Over Texas this year.  Dave have an update on the FAA, including an update on House Bill 4441 and special rule for model aircraft.  He noted that tomorrow (Feb 19th) was the deadline for registering with the FAA as a model aircraft pilot.

SECRETARY’S REPORT -- Patrick McNamara:  Nothing to report.

TREASURER’S REPORT -- Dave Cotton:  Dave was out of town.  Greg reviewed the financial report which was displayed on the projector for attendees to view.  Greg noted a delayed debit carrying over from the club’s 2015 lease payment.  A motion was made, and seconded, to approve the financial report as presented.Motion passed by unanimous voice vote.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT -- Bruce Lakatos:  158 current members.

FIELD REPORT -- Bob Edlet-Murphy:  Many small tasks have been accomplished.  Pile of dirt is gone --more holes have been filled.  New letters up on the front of the shelter.  Fixed garage door.  Josh Kleen noted the need for spell checking -- see lites.

Charles noted the need for gravel on road leading to field.  Estimate 4-5 loads of gravel.  Approx $1500.  Motion was made, and seconded, to approve funding for gravel.  Motion passed by unanimous voice vote.

Discussion regarding replacing the mower:  a group will present options at the March meeting.  A motion was made, and seconded, to approve up to $5000 for purchase of a new mower.  Motion passed by unanimous voice vote.

SAFETY REPORT -- Dave Schafer:  No safety issues.

RAFFLE -- Jacque Parker:  16 items presented for the evening raffle.

CD REPORTS and EVENTS:  Wings Over Windsong scheduled for the week before Warbirds Over Texas.  Club discussed providing volunteers again this year.  Commitment is minimal, 5-10 voluteers.  Josh Kleen is representing NDRCC with event planning.

Other area events were discussed. 

Indoor flying is set up through end of May, 2016.  After that, the church gym will no longer be available.  Josh to start looking for a new site.

Discussion was held about what to do for Apr 9th Spring Youth Day.  Bob will check with Scouts.

NEW BUSINESS:  Noted that Bill Paerrad (sp?), an active member from years past, had turned 90 and is now in hospice.

OLD BUSINESS:  No old business. Business portion of meeting closed at 7:34PM

SHOW and TELL:  Charles show the tail feathers of his Fokker project.  More than 800 sq in in tail surface area.

January 2016 Minutes

 

The January meeting of the North Dallas RC Club occurred on January 21, 2016 at Valley View Christian Church. Club President Greg Pulcini called the meeting to order at 7:02pm

The minutes for the December meeting were presented to the membership.  Motion was made to accept the minutes with correction of the date for the December meeting.  Motion was seconded and December minutes we approved.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT – Greg Pulcini:  Nothing to report.  Greg gave a welcome and introductory words for 2016.

VICE PRESIDENT – Dave Schaefer:  Nothing to report

SECRETARY – Patrick McNamara: Nothing to report.  Greg noted that the AMA has not yet mailed out our club charter packet.  Expected to receive by end of January.

TREASURER – Dave Cotton: Presented summary of current accounts.  Dave described plan to move the existing money market account to an online bank account in order to receive some amount of interest on the club savings.

MEMBERSHIP – Bruce Lakatos: Reported on membership status.  3 new members in January.  Current membership sits at 155

FIELD – Bob Edlet-Murphy (absent):  No report.  Greg noted that the focus for field maintenance will be on the runway in order to be prepped for Spring events and especially WBOT 2016.

SAFETY – Dave Schafer: Noted a few incidents of armed or running planes facing down the runway while aircraft recover in progress in the same direction.  Dave reminder the membership  to remain in positive cotrol of their aircraft and to be aware of the location of people.

SOUND – Billy Slater: No sound issues

WEBMASTER – Ken Sienski (absent):  None

TRAINING – Josh Kleen: Nothing to report

RAFFLE – Jacque Parker: Jacque present the normal, wide selection of raffle prizes.  He also presented the quarterly prize for the first quarter:  Radian BNF glider.

CD REPORTS – No new  reports.  Indoor flying continues to be the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month.  Upcoming events:  March Aerotow, April Float Fly, Spring Youth Day

Warbids Over Texas:  Estimated to need 30 volunteers for two days in June.

OLD BUSINESS – None to cover

NEW BUSINESS:

Heli pad: A member commented that the club was not particularly heli friendly.  It was proposed that the club build a 5'x5' concrete heli pad at the north end of the field for helicopters to land a take off front.Flight would be to the west, away from the runway.  Bruce estimated cost at less that $200. A motion was made to authorize up to $200 to build the heli pad.  Motion was seconded and passed by show of hands with no opposing votes.

FAA issue: Dave Schaefer discussed the current state of FAA registration requirements for model aircraft pilots.  Dave made a general recommendation to the attendees to take a “wait and see” approach to registration.  The club will not be policing registration.  There was much general discussion by the attendees regarding the FAA rules.  The board will forward out any information and/or guidance received from the AMA to the club membership before the registration deadline of Feb 19th. Dave also noted the existing AMA requirement to have your AMA number and contact information on all aircraft.  A contact information template was passed around for review.  The template will be posted on the club website for use by club members.

CLOSE OF BUSINESS – The business portion of the meeting was closed by Greg Pulcini at 7:37pm

SHOW AND TELL –Josh Kleen presented his Hangar 9, 60cc Corsair with a Saito FG-84, thee cylinder raidial. Billy Slater presented the tail feathers of his scratch built PT-19 project.  Building from Hostetler plans and a kit cut by Precision Cut Kits.

PROGRAM – Computer Radio Programming, presented by Josh Kleen.
