NDRCC Meeting Minutes for March 2014

 

The March 2014 meeting of the North Dallas R/C Club was called to order by Don Hafer on March 20, 2014.

Previous month’s minutes were approved as posted on the website.  

VISITORS/NEW MEMBERS – Former member Sandy Downing and Bill Glancy, Mayor of Farmers Branch.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT-  Don Hafer.  Nothing to report.

SECRETARY – Bruce Lakatos.   Bruce noted other local upcoming events.  From now on all events from other clubs will be posted to the website.  

VICE PRESIDENT – Charles Shafer.  Nothing to report.

TREASURER/MEMBERSHIP – Charlie Pyne gave a detailed presentation of the financial status of the club.  A motion to accept treasurer's report passed.    

SAFETY- Dave Schaefer.  No safety issues.  

FIELD –  Dave Schaefer.  Field looks good.  

SOUND-  Billy Slater. Absent with no issues.  All Quiet.

TRAINING – Jim Williams and Dale O'Daniel-  Dale was absent.  Charlie Pyne has graduated from training.

WEBMASTER –  Ken Sienksi.  Ken's website is still getting much positive feedback from other clubs around the country.  Ken is still looking for content from other club members.

FACEBOOK- Josh Kleen.  Our facebook page still needs content.  Otherwise it is going well.      

CD REPORTS –  John Grubbs reported that the indoor flying is still successful.  Indoor flying is still the 2nd and 4th Thursdays, which will change to once a month for the months of June, July and August.  Charles Shafer reported that the Aero-tow event on March 17th was a success with 6 pilots and 15 spectators.  Also thanks to Bruce Lakatos for a great lunch.  Ft. Worth Thunderbirds is having a lift competition on March 28th -30th.  They are in need of volunteers.  More info can be found on their website.  Ed Kettler gave a brief review of the upcoming Warbird event and the new changes that will be in place.  Also note that the May meeting will be held at the field.

OLD BUSINESS-  We are still working on donating the Ford tractor to Aubrey High School Industrial Arts program as soon as they are ready to take delivery.  Due to personal issues with the contractor, we still have not completed the road gravel project.  A motion passed to spend $150 for 2 ice coolers for events.  At this writing the coolers have been purchased.

NEW BUSINESS -  None.

SHOW and TELL – Alan Buckner displayed his vintage Crusader Canard.  

RAFFLE-  Jaques Parker conducted the monthly raffle.  The quarterly prize is a Yak 52 ARF which was won by Ed Nogar.

PROGRAM -  Swap meet, which was a success.

 

February 2014 Minutes

The February 2014 meeting of the North Dallas R/C Club was called to order by Don Hafer on February 20, 2014.

Previous month’s minutes were approved as posted on the website.  

VISITORS/NEW MEMBERS – Mr. Scott Brkovich and his son Nick, and former member Steve Taylor.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT-  Don Hafer.  Reported of notice he received of the TX Wings Giant Scale Fly-in event to be held on 4/4/14 thru 4/6/14.  More info can be found on their website txwings.com.

SECRETARY – Bruce Lakatos.   Bruce noted other local upcoming events.  Bruce also reported on the increase in the membership at the first of the year over last year.  Bruce read a few AMA rules to maintain our Gold Leader status.  

VICE PRESIDENT – Charles Shafer.  Charles reviewed the dates of this year's club events which are posted on our website.  Charles reminded us that there will be only one "swap meet" this year which will be held during the March 2014 meeting.  Charles encouraged others who are non-members to attend.  Charles mentioned that due to the help of our landlord in reducing our taxes, we request the membership to approve paying a difference of $135 on our landlord's behalf.  A motion for that passed.

TREASURER/MEMBERSHIP – Charlie Pyne gave a detailed presentation of the financial status of the club.  A motion to accept treasurer's report passed.    

SAFETY- Dave Schaefer.  No safety issues.  

FIELD –  Dave Schaefer.  Field looks good.  

SOUND-  Billy Slater.  No issues.  All Quiet.

TRAINING – Jim Williams and Dale O'Daniel-  Currently there are 2 or 3 currently interested in training although training has been affected by weather.  A trainer plane was found abandoned and was donated to our club.  Billy Slater volunteered to repair the plane.

WEBMASTER –  Ken Sienksi.  Ken put countless hours of work into the website improvement and the results have generated much positive feedback from other clubs around the country.

FACEBOOK- Josh Kleen.  There are now 50 likes on our facebook page which shows it's popularity.        

CD REPORTS –  John Grubbs reported that the indoor flying is still successful.  Charles Shafer displayed rules for the upcoming Aero-tow event on March 17th.  The field will be closed for the event.  There will also be a hot dog lunch.   Ft. Worth Thunderbirds is sponsoring a lift competition on March 28th -30th.  They are in need of volunteers.  More info can be found on their website.  Last, the Weatherford Swap Meet will be held March 14-15.

OLD BUSINESS-  We will soon be donating the Ford tractor to Aubrey High School Industrial Arts program as soon as they are ready to take delivery.  Due to weather we still have not completed the road gravel project.

SHOW and TELL – John Grubbs displayed his semi-scratch built Ultrastick.   Bruce Lakatos demonstrated an idea to help keep a prop spinner from slipping while tightening the pro nut.  

RAFFLE-  Jaques Parker conducted the monthly raffle.  The quarterly prize is a Yak 52 ARF.

PROGRAM -  Dave Schaefer gave a very informative presentation on the principles of setting up an electric airplane.

January 2014 Minutes

The January 2014 meeting of the North Dallas R/C Club was called to order by Don Hafer on January 16, 2014.

Previous month’s minutes were approved as posted on the website.  The club rules were reactivated by vote for the 2014 year.

VISITORS/NEW MEMBERS – None. 

PRESIDENT'S REPORT-  Don Hafer.  Nothing to report.

SECRETARY – Bruce Lakatos.  Member Garrett Amy's father made a generous donation to the club general fund.  Bruce noted other local upcoming events.  Bruce also read a few AMA rules to maintain our Gold Leader status.  

VICE PRESIDENT – Charles Shafer.  Charles reviewed the dates of this year's club events which are posted on our website.  A motion passed to approve field use on the selected dates.  Charles also noted the future meeting programs and that there will be only one "swap meet" this year which will be held during the March 2014 meeting.  We are always looking for more ideas for meeting programs.

TREASURER/MEMBERSHIP – Charlie Pyne gave a detailed presentation of the financial status of the club.  A motion to accept treasurer's report passed.  We welcome Charlie as our new Treasurer.  Membership count is now at 156 which is up significantly from this time last year.  

SAFETY- Dave Schaefer.  No safety issues.  

FIELD –  Dave Schaefer.  Field looks good.  Dave mentioned the importance of putting active membership cards in the appropriate slots during flying per our rules.  This is an ongoing problem and we are looking into other ideas which would aid in keeping membership  cards on display while operating RC aircraft.  We are open to suggestions  on this issue.  Billy Slater suggested the idea of attaching membership cards to the pilot's radio.  Josh Kleen suggested that the cards could also be attached to the pilot by a clip or lanyard, as some businesses do.

TRAINING – Jim Williams and Dale O'Daniel-  Jim Williams was absent.  Currently there are 2 or 3 currently interested in training although training has been affected by weather.   

WEBMASTER –  Ken Sienksi.  Ken has recently completed a major overhaul to our website which looks fantastic.  He went over all of the website features and the website is currently up to date.  Ken is still making minor improvements.  NDRCC thanks Ken for putting countless hours of work into the website improvement and the results certainly reflect his work.   

FACEBOOK- Josh Kleen.  Josh gave a brief status report on the Facebook page, which now has a link to it from the NDRCC website and is now easier to locate.        

CD REPORTS –  John Grubbs reported that the indoor flying is still quite successful.   

OLD BUSINESS-  Charles Shafer is still in the process of getting prices for the road improvement.  The new gate combination lock has been installed with the combination being issued upon membership renewal.  The runway extension project is on hold for now.  Also, due to the recent discovery of a major mechanical problem, we will be donating the Ford tractor to Aubrey High School Industrial Arts program.  They are very excited and plan to have students refurbish the tractor over the next few years.

NEW BUSINESS -  A field box was donated to the club which was auctioned off and raised $36 which will go into the club general fund.  The idea of having an AMA sanctioned Aero-towing event at our field was raised.

SHOW and TELL – Alan Buckner showed his vintage Brown Model D engine.  Dale O'Daniel displayed his new P51 with new electronic engine sound technology.  Ed Nogar brought in his scratch-built float racer. 

RAFFLE-  Jaques Parker conducted the monthly raffle and also presented the funds from last month's auction to the treasurer.  

PROGRAM -  Yoram Solomon (pictured) gave a very informative presentation about the latest technology in model aviation avionics.

December 2013 Minutes

The December 2013 meeting of the North Dallas R/C Club was called to order by Don Hafer on December  19, 2013.

Previous month’s minutes were approved as posted on the website.

VISITORS/NEW MEMBERS –  New members Larry and Pat Doversberger,  club member's wives, Mrs. Guillory, Mrs. Reed, Mrs. Viosca and Mrs. Shuck.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT-  Don Hafer  reminded everyone of the minor adjustments to the by-laws concerning youth fees, which will mirror the AMA policy.

SECRETARY – Bruce Lakatos.  Nothing to report.

VICE PRESIDENT – Charles Shafer.  Nothing to report.

TREASURER/MEMBERSHIP – Dave Cotton gave a brief presentation of the financial status of the club at the time of the meeting.  A motion to accept treasurer's report passed.

SAFETY- Dave Schaefer.  No safety issues.  Dave reminded everyone that the cold weather brings on more model building and extra care should be considered to avoid accidents during the building process.

FIELD –  Dave Schaefer.  Field looks good.

TRAINING – Jim Williams and Dale O'Daniel-  Currently there are 2 in training although training has been affected by weather.

WEBMASTER –  Ken Sienksi.  Ken stated that the website is up to date.

FACEBOOK- Josh Kleen.  Josh promoted the Facebook page..

CD REPORTS –  John Grubbs reported that the indoor flying is cancelled through the month of December due to church programs.   John also reported that he has obtained 2 float fly sanctions from the AMA for Hidden Cove Park on the dates of 4/26/14 and 9/20/14.

OLD BUSINESS-  A reminder that funding for a new front gate has been approved.

NEW BUSINESS -  A motion was approved to spend up to $750 for needed gravel road repairs.  Charles gave a very brief presentation of the new combination lock that will replace the old key lock at the automatic gate.  The combination will be distributed to all members at the first of the year.  We ask that all keys be turned in.  A container for these keys will be placed out at the field.

Club officer elections were held and there were 6 positions and 2 appointments approved by the membership present.

RAFFLE-  Jaques Parker conducted the monthly raffle with the quarterly prize being won by  Don Hafer.

PROGRAM -  Holiday Event.  There was a large turnout for the holiday event.   Nobody left hungry.

November 2013 Minutes

The November 2013 meeting of the North Dallas R/C Club was called to order by Don Hafer on November  21, 2013.

Previous month’s minutes were approved as posted on the website.

VISITORS/NEW MEMBERS –  Club member Gordon Guillory.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT-  Don Hafer had nothing to report.

SECRETARY – Bruce Lakatos.  No upcoming events.  Bruce noted that all AMA rules have been covered per our Gold Leader status and that the Gold Leader paperwork has been submitted to the AMA.  Bruce also displayed recently acquired Aircore literature.

VICE PRESIDENT – Charles Shafer.  Nothing to report.

TREASURER/MEMBERSHIP – Dave Cotton was absent.  Charles Shafer gave a brief presentation of the financial report.

SAFETY- Dave Schaefer.  No safety issues.

FIELD –  Dave Schaefer.  Field looks good.  Dave also mentioned his findings from a brief test of the effects of having a cell phone near the flight line.  Dave highly recommended that cell phone use be prohibited at the flight line.  Special thanks to all those who help with the mowing.

TRAINING – Jim Williams and Dale O'Daniel-  Training has been affected by weather.

WEBMASTER –  Ken Sienksi.  Ken stated that the website is up to date and he gave a brief demonstration of the online renewal process.  Ken also discussed hobby shop links on our website.

FACEBOOK- Josh Kleen.  Josh was absent.

CD REPORTS –  John Grubbs reported that the indoor flying is still ongoing.  Charles Shafer reported that the Youth day on Nov. 2nd was a success.  Approx. 50 people attended.  One trainer plane was lost but another was donated to make up for it.  Also interest was raised in creating a "Fun Fly" event.

OLD BUSINESS-   Charles reported that we participated in manning the AMA trailer at the WAC event on Oct. 1.  .  Dale O'Daniel again expressed interest in a night flying program which he is willing to lead.

NEW BUSINESS -  A motion was raised to change the lock at the automatic gate to a combination lock.  This would eliminate access by all those members in the past who still have a key to the gate.  The new lock would be a combination lock with the combination being changed annually.  This would eliminate the cost of making keys.  It is club officer election time again and  there are 6 positions and 2 appointments that need to be filled.

SHOW and TELL –  Charles Shafer showed his new Proto X Quadcopter.

RAFFLE-  Jaques Parker conducted the monthly raffle with the next quarterly prize being a 20cc size Evolution gas engine.  Don Hafer conducted an auction for 3 planes with the following results-  A Spitfire $60 and a P51 for $75 was raised.  These planes were donated by club member Brian Buesking.  Also Paul McManus donated A Hellcat which raised $75.  These funds were added to the raffle funds.

PROGRAM -  Dave Schaefer again did a brief presentation on the success of his latest rocket project in addition to crash and contest videos.
