January 2021 Meeting Minutes

The January 2021 meeting of the North Dallas RC Club occurred on January 20, 2021 via ZOOM due to
COVID. President Josh Kleen called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.
A motion was made, and seconded, to approve December 2020 meeting minutes as published.
Approval passed unanimously, by voice vote.
VISITORS – None
PRESIDENT’S REPORT — Josh Kleen:
The NDRCC board had a meeting earlier this month to lay the foundation for a number of items
including event planning, discussion of the budget and other items. These items will be discussed in this
and future meetings.
A presentation on the FAA remote ID will follow the meeting.
VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT — Wayne Shuck:
Wayne reported on the renewal of the club charter. It was missed last year. Wayne has submitted all the
AMA required information and is awaiting AMA response to fulfill both last year’s and 2021 charter. The
responsible AMA individual is out for the next week delaying the process.
SECRETARY’S REPORT — Billy Slater:
I am working on getting the new sound rules posted at the field.
TREASURER’S REPORT — Dave Cotton:
Dave reported the financial condition as of the end of December 2020. A motion was made, and
seconded, to approve the financial report as presented by Dave. Approval passed unanimously, by voice
vote.
Dave presented the proposed budget for 2021. This budget is dependant on a number of new members
joining during the year and revenue from club events. A motion was made, and seconded, to approve
the 2021 budget as presented by Dave. Approval passed unanimously, by voice vote.
There was a discussion regarding club dues and the need to bring in new members and to increase
revenue from club events.
Dave also reported that he had replaced several of the retractable power cords and that several others
would likely need replacement.
MEMBERSHIP REPORT – Bruce Lakatos:
Bruce reports 134 members as of the date of the meeting.
FIELD REPORT — Rex Lawrence:

Field is looking good.
Brewer Road gate has been adjusted.
Clean the large grill if you use it. Rex is looking for a smaller grill for individuals to use. The large grill is
primarily for large events.
SAFETY REPORT — Charles Shafer:
No incidents reported.
There is still some taxiing in the “No Taxi” area of the sidewalk.
Josh asks that you not arm electric planes in the covered pit area.
SOUND REPORT – Billy Slater:
No Report.
TRAINING – Rich Phillips:
Rich reported no students at this time.
Josh had one student seeking a turbine waiver.
Rich proposed a “Learn to Fly It Before You Buy It” program. This proposal would allow an individual to
learn to fly a fixed wing NDRCC trainer for $100. This will be discussed further and voted on in the
February meeting.
RAFFLE –Rich Phillips:
An UpRoar V2 was raffled. Charles Shafer won this raffle.
CD REPORTS and EVENTS:
Corp Of Engineers has accepted a request for permit for our May 1st float fly at Lake Dallas by Charles
Shafer. (Later learned that this had been approved — B. Slater)
WBOT is scheduled for June 11th and 12th – Charles Shafer.
A Fall float fly is planned for September – October – Josh Kleen
Josh is proposing an informal jet fly this spring. Based on the interest in this informal event a larger
formal jet event may be done in the fall.
OLD BUSINESS:

NEW BUSINESS:
A change to the Youth annual dues from $0 to $15 is proposed to match the AMA fee structure. This will
be voted on in the February meeting.
A change to the bylaws to permit virtual meetings is proposed. This will be voted on in the February
meeting.
A change to the bylaws to remove Section 10 which is the old sound rule and conflicts with the recently
passed sound rule is proposed. This will be voted on in the February meeting.
A vote to reaffirm NDRCC rules for the year 2021 was held. Approval passed unanimously, by voice vote.
